Amanda Bossard was just out of high school when she started her studies in marine biology at Alaska PacificUniversity in Anchorage. Bossard started her commercial fishing career in 1999 when she began working on the ship F/V Sunset. The 65' schooner converted to an ice-fish tender was owned by Murat Aritan. He has been a commercial fisherman since 1993. Bossard was married to Aritan in 1999 and the couple have teamed up to defend their businesses. They're both supporters of conservatism and lucrative renewable resources for seafood management. Otolith is a direct wholesale seafood company, was established in 2007 by Bella Bossard (age three), Andre Bossard (1 year old) and Bossard's mother. Bossard had returned to Philadelphia after having two young children. The name of the company is a loving reference to her deep expertise in fish biology as well as her husband's lengthy involvement with the fishing industry, frequently keeping them apart for 5 months or longer when they are focused on their economic and environmental objectives that are a reflection of their individuality and commitment to their community wherever they reside.
